I have a “marketing buddy” whom I talk to each week and what follows is typical conversation:
Me: “Have you tried Twitter yet?”
Her: “Like I need another thing to get my focus off my other money-making tasks.”
Me: “Yeah, me too.”
That’s about the extent of it. But I have to say that Twitter is a little different.
I have a MySpace page for the business but it’s such a pain to login every single time I get a post. I created a FaceBook page but that’s as far as I got. I also have a LinkedIn page, which is fine but I haven’t really worked it like I should. I admit that sometimes I do get hung up looking at friends of friends and TOTALLY see a 6-degrees-of-separation thing happening. Ok, getting off track again.
I get requests from others such as Naymz, Plaxo, etc. and I feel bad that I don’t respond, but I just can’t keep up with it all. Then a client told me about Twitter and told me that “I HAD to sign up” because that is where my target market was. Uh huh. Right.
The next day my client sent me an urgent message – “Someone just asked for a tech VA! Hurry, get on Twitter!” So I signed up and within 24 hours I had signed one client and another was e-mailing me. This was about two weeks ago.
Yes, I have since seen the potential for this tool. I like that a lot of people can post and there’s no logging in for each post from each person. I like that is has 140-characters; doesn’t take an hour to read like some blogs. I think that because it’s so short, people are apt to write about off-the-wall things like what foolishness their kid just got into, or that they NEED coffee, like NOW, to stay AWAKE. Those things are funny to me and puts a smile on my face. Just don’t be like Lisa Nova LOL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALbH63Ali9U
